I READ with interest about Woodley Travel’s plans to charge operators a £1 brochure-racking fee (Travel Weekly December 13) but must take issue with one particular comment attributed to George Lykavgis that ‘all operators are involved in direct sell’. Not so.
Travel 2/Travel 4 does not, has not and will not take a booking direct from a consumer. We deal exclusively with agents who have, over nearly 18 years, helped us to build a thriving business without the need to direct sell.
I am all in favour of agents taking direct action to protect their livelihood, and there is a certain poetic justice in charging a racking fee to operators who use retailers to supplement their direct sell business.
But I’d be very disappointed if Woodley Travel chose to impose such a measure on Travel 2/Travel 4, or thought us just another operator out to steal business.
