Strikes will have ‘no effect’, claims Eurostar

EUROSTAR has claimed planned strikes by RMT members will
have no effect on its Bank Holiday Weekend passengers
.

The operator is laying on eight extra trains to cope with demand
and the company said only a “handful” of customer services staff
will be striking.

The RMT union has called the 24-hour strike for August 28 over
an ongoing pay dispute.

The RMT has complained staff at the terminal in Ashford are paid
around £4,000 less than those at Waterloo.

Eurostar director of communications Paul Charles said: “The RMT
has chosen the Bank Holiday period to try and cause maximum
disruption but, for Eurostar and its passengers, it’s business as
usual.

“Travellers are fed up with the RMT’s attempts to disrupt their
holiday plans.”

The industrial action is one of a series of travel industry
strikes to hit the public over the Bank Holiday.

British Airways is still facing strikes, while United Airlines
is also facing strike action on August 27 by ground staff.
