UNITED Airlines has claimed it will operate a full schedule over
the August Bank Holiday weekend, even if employee strikes go ahead
as planned.
The airline’s T&G Union represented workers had
planned to start a 24-hour strike at 4.30am this morning (August
27) over a pay dispute.
Over 90% of ground staff, baggage handlers and check-in staff
voted in favour of taking action. Of the union’s 700 United
members, 70% turned out to vote.
A United spokesman said: “United believes it has made a fair pay
and conditions offer to its employees and, as such, is disappointed
with this decision.”
The airline is expected to use the resources of some of its Star
Alliance partners over the period.
