Tourism Ireland has taken a leaf out of the DIY
travellers’ book and is letting agents organise their own fam
trips.
Agents can apply for a pass from the tourist office entitling
them to free transport to Ireland and heavily discounted rates at
hotels, bed-and-breakfast properties and attractions.
Tourism Ireland trade promotions manager Miriam O’Connell
said: “We want to get as many agents to Ireland next year as
possible. This way they can do it with a friend or partner, during
the week or over a weekend.”
She said key areas to promote are Northern Ireland and the West
Coast.
So far more than 700 agents have applied for a DIY fam pass,
allowing free passage on either Irish Ferries or Stena Line routes,
and up to 50% off bed-and-breakfast accommodation at any of the
Town and Country Homes group of properties.
Hotel accommodation is also discounted – four-star
properties in Dublin are available from 45 euros per night, and
five-stars from 70 euros per night.
Car rental is available from all the major suppliers in Ireland
from 24 euros a day.
Agents who send in feedback on their trips will receive a CD of
Irish music as a thank-you gift.
