MYTRAVEL Airways will axe in-flight meals as a paid-for
extra and reinstate them in package prices from next
June.
Despite the dramatic U-turn the operator claimed package prices
will not rise.
Managing director Frank Pullman said charters had “questioned
the viability” of in-flight meals in recent years, introducing
pay-as-you-go meals last year. MyTravel Airways charges £5
each way short haul, and £10 long haul, for a hot meal.
But research shows passengers do want to eat on leisure flights.
In response, the airline has launched a new in-flight food concept
called Blue Sky Service.
Pre-launch trials showed 63% of 6,000 passengers expected a hot
meal. The new service offers ‘trayless’ hot meals on a
disposable roll-mat instead of a plastic tray.
Rival Thomson Holidays said it had “no intention” of putting
meals back into package prices.
