Strict booking conditions apply despite Bali bombs

TOUR operators are maintaining strict booking conditions to Bali, despite the terrorist attacks which killed 26 people just two days ago.

ABTA said it was not aware of any Britons travelling with a tour operator being injured, although it has been reported two British people have been wounded in the blasts that hit Kuta and Jimbaran beach.

Kuoni said it had 160 clients in Bali at the time of the attack, all of whom had decided to continue with their holidays. It is allowing people due to travel today the option to cancel, and until October 9 clients have the option to change their booking to another destination free of charge. After that date, they will be charged for amendments. It said normal booking conditions apply for cancellations.

Hayes and Jarvis said it had 87 guests in Bali, and is allowing clients due to travel the option to change up until October 5, from when normal conditions apply.

Thomas Cook Signature had 40 people in the destination at the time. A spokeswoman said: “As the Foreign Office hasn’t changed its advice, normal booking conditions apply, but we are taking a flexible approach to people due to travel in the next seven days.”

Pacific Asia Travel Association chairman Tim Robinson said it was too early to tell what the impact on future bookings would be. “I could understand a downturn but I could also understand people being quite pragmatic and continuing to travel. It is a matter for individual informed choice, as terrorist attacks can happen almost anywhere,” he said.
