Co-op jumps onboard property gravy train

THE United Co-op Group has become the latest agency chain to jump on the overseas property bandwagon after a deal with Taylor Woodrow de Espana homes.

As the overseas market continues to boom, United Co-op said 42 of its branches would initially earn incentives on sale of homes in Spain, with all 97 shops taking part by next month.

It will work on a commission basis – United Co-op will earn an undisclosed percentage when Taylor Woodrow takes a deposit on a property from a recommendation by a high-street shop.

Agents will offer information on homes in Costa Blanca, Majorca and Costa del Sol. The scheme will also feature on co-optravelshop.co.uk.

United Co-op commercial development manager Ruth Evans said: “By linking with Taylor Woodrow, we can market properties in full confidence of the quality of the build and customer service they’ll receive before, during and after the sale.

“At a time when high-street branches are closing we are always looking at new streams. So far we’ve had 24 referrals.”

Taylor Woodrow has properties within purpose-built developments, starting from €205,500 (£140,000) and rising to €800,000 (£540,000).
