ITT: Industry tackle protection says FTO

A TIME-bomb is ticking in the industry because of the Government’s failure to address consumer protection, director-general of the Federation of Tour Operators Andy Cooper told ITT delegates.

He feared there is a risk of a big failure in the industry, the consequences of which would affect the entire sector – yet he claimed the public are happy to pay for protection.

“Customers are confused, but they are willing to pay for protection. There is a time-bomb waiting to explode in the marketplace as a whole because of the failure to address this issue.

“All of us in the sector will be impacted by a big failure. It’s amazing the Government chose to ignore it.

“It’s my theory politicians fundamentally do not really address our sector and that has many implications for how our industry is treated generally. We have less resources than British Airways or BAA and that brings its own issues about how we are received across many areas.”
