French tourist office to launch agent website

THE French tourist office, Maison de la France, is to launch a new web information portal for agents.

The online initiative is one of the plans of new UK director at Maison de la France, Jean-Pierre Courteau.

He said: “The trade has a market share of around 25%. A future step is to develop an online information system, especially for agents, as we have done in other countries, including one in Germany.”

Courteau said his first priority as director is to meet the trade at the next Association of British Tour Operators to France (ABTOF) event.

Meanwhile, Maison de la France’s headquarters in Paris has invested €50,000 in developing a new tagline: France, a unique rendez-vous.

The signature will be the baseline on all promotional activities. “It means all our promotional activities, such as advertisements, will have this tagline.

“I’m also in favour of operators who are promoting France using the tagline, but a decision on whether to do this has yet to be made.”

Meanwhile, MDLF has teamed up with ferry operators and regional tourist boards to promote ‘France in your car’, a new website dedicated to self-drive holidays. It will show holidaymakers distance charts, routes, and ideas for holidays and activities.

Courteau said the aim of the ‘France in your car’ campaign is to remind holidaymakers of the activities on their doorstep and the independence that car travel can bring.

Brittany Ferries, SeaFrance and P&O are working with the French regions of Brittany, Normandy, Champagne-Ardenne, Aquitaine, Western Loire and Poitou-Charentes for the campaign. The initiative includes adverts in the national press and online.
