Stewart Travel owner buys ATM Travel

THE owner of Perthshire-based ATM Travel Jamie Moffat has sold his business to fellow Scottish agent Willie Stewart – owner of Stewart Travel – who used to work for Moffat’s father.

Moffat, former managing director of AT Mays, which his father founded, plans to retire from the industry to spend more time at his house in Spain, improve his golf game and work on the family charitable trust which donated £800,000 to good causes in the UK last year.

He said he was delighted to have found a local family-run business for the sale, which should be completed by August 1.

Two of the three ATM Travel branches in Ayr and Saltcoats will be rebranded under the Stewart Travel name, and the Prestwick branch – where Stewart Travel has its headquarters – will close.

However, all ATM Travel staff will be retained.

“Having made the decision to retire, I am pleased to have found an Ayrshire-based company with the pedigree of Stewart Travel to purchase the business,” Moffat said.

“Willie’s career in travel started with AT Mays when he was employed by my father to work in Irvine, so it is rather special that I am able to pass it on to a similar locally-based family business.”

Stewart said: “Jamie is happy with the sale. It was a good fit.”
