Travel Weekly will launch its first blog in the coming weeks and we want the industry to get involved.

We are looking for five readers to become regular bloggers, sharing their insight, experiences and personality with the rest of the industry.

As well as publishing the thoughts of our industry bloggers, the Travel Weekly team will also update the blog every day, keeping users entertained and informed about ongoing industry developments, events they’ve recently attended, or commenting on breaking news.

We also have a few ideas up our sleeves that we will share soon.

Entering is simple: send us 150-200 words for the blog, based on anything you like, as long as it is travel-related and, more importantly, will capture the attention of readers. Make sure you add any relevant links to other Internet sites you feel will help.

Send entries to Kevin May at kevin.may@rbi.co.uk. Good luck!

What is a blog?

In simple terms, a blog is a diary for the Internet, or weblog. It is displayed in chronological order and is primarily text based, although many use pictures, video and audio to enhance the experience for users.

Some blogs are blow-by-blow accounts of the lives of their creators, while others offer analysis of news events or sectors of industry.

The key to a good blog is to offer as much information as possible to users, by way of links to other sources and sites.

Who else is doing it?

Anyone can write a blog. But here are some examples:

  • Travolution.blogspot.com: Travel Weekly’s sister paper Travolution has been running a blog since January and has become one of the most popular UK B2B travel blogs on the web.
  • Selectworld.travel: The Malvern-based travel agency in Worcestershire uses its blog to write about destinations, publish pictures and run video clips of resorts. The company has credited its blog with boosting business and in September won a Travolution Sm@rt Agent award for its efforts.
  • Travel-Rants.com: A highly personable, consumer travel blog run by Darren Cronian, from Leeds, West Yorkshire. It covers topics as diverse as bonding, airport security issues and destination tips.
