TUNISIA specialist Wigmore Holidays is expecting an increase in city-break bookings to Tunis after adding the boutique Dar El Medina Hotel to its 2007 programme.
The hotel has 12 rooms and is just a few steps from the heart of the medina. A ‘dar’ is the Tunisian name for small, character properties in restored traditional houses.
Wigmore director Kader Chelbi said: “The type of people who would be interested in a city break to Tunis are the same people who want to stay in this type of character property. We have not been able to meet their requirements before. This will increase our city-break bookings.”
Wigmore is offering Dar El Medina alone, but there is also an option to twin it with Dar Saïd in Sidi Bou Saïd in a new Double Aspects section highlighting twin-centre holidays.
Chelbi said: “We have always offered twin centres, but this is the first time we have had a page in the brochure with suggestions.
“A north/south twin-centre has always been most popular but I think staying in Tunis and Sidi Bou Saïd, combining the city and medina with Carthage and the coast, will work well.”
Four nights at Dar El Medina costs from £495 per person bed and breakfast with flights and transfers, while a seven-night holiday combining Tunis and Sidi Bou Saïd costs from £690 per person bed and breakfast including flights and transfers.
Wigmore has also added a third all-inclusive property, the Iberostar Jerba Beach in Jerba, from £630 per person for one week including flights and transfers. It introduced two all-inclusive hotels for the first time this year.
Chelbi said: “These are hotels we used to feature but which have moved to all-inclusive. We get requests from agents for them and it offers variety in the brochure.”
