Guardian, Observer and Guardian Unlimited travel awards 2006HOME working travel agency Travel Counsellors has been named the UK’s best travel agent in the 20th annual Guardian, Observer and Guardian Unlimited travel awards.

The company pipped three-times winner Trailfinders to the post with a score of 99.29% for its quality of service, as voted for by readers.

It employs 670 professional travel counsellors working from home and was founded in 1994.

Chairman David Speakman said: “Travel Counsellors is becoming more well-known and there has been a tipping point in the last year.”

Trailfinders came second with 90.72% and Travelcare was third with 88.37%. Travel Counsellors’ rating was the highest percentage in the awards.

More than 15,000 questionnaires were completed by readers to form the basis of the awards.

Going Places, Thomson, Thomas Cook and First Choice were 13th,14th,15th and 16th overall respectively.
