WTM: Alberta seeks to boost UK visitors by 10% – 9 Nov 2006

Travel Alberta is targeting a 10% increase in UK arrivals next year on the back of new flights from the UK to Edmonton and Calgary.

Air Canada launched a three-times-weekly flight from London to Edmonton on October 31, while British Airways starts flying from Heathrow to Calgary five times a week on December 1.

Speaking at World Travel Market, Travel Alberta director international sales Alida Hume said: “It’s been a long time since we had direct flights to Edmonton. The flights are aimed at business travellers but leisure will benefit.”

She said the flights will be promoted at Canary Wharf, when the Christmas ice rink opens there on November 18, reaching a potential audience of 80,000 people.
