Lastminute to launch pre-paid travel cash cards – 29 Nov 2006

Lastminute.com is set to launch a pre-paid travel card that will allow its customers to carry holiday money and reduce the need to carry traveler’s cheques or currency.

The chip and pin card, available from December 5, will be accepted worldwide wherever the maestro logo is present. Card users will be charged a 2.75% fixed commission on foreign exchange.

Cards are delivered within 10 days of completing an online application and a pin number is sent out separately. Before they travel customers can then upload up to £300 a day to the card online or deposit up to £500 a day at a PayPoint terminal. The money is available immediately.

People who apply for the card by January 5 will receive no commission charge on foreign exchange for the life of the card.
