STAFF at Bolton-based Travel Counsellor’s earn around £8,000 more than the average retail travel agent, a survey has shown.
Research carried out by the company revealed the average counsellor – who are home-working agents – received £20,200 last year.
A study by AA Appointments gave high-street retail agents a wage of £12,200, 22% less than the national average.
Travel Counsellors managing director David Speakman said 60% of his staff earned more than £15,000 last year with 10% topping £40,000.
“The figures go to prove that Travel Counsellors can attain much higher earnings than that proffered by normal ABTA agents on the high street,” he said.
The company currently employs 30 staff at its new head office along with 75 homeworkers across the UK.
A further 45 staff are working on-line to meet Teletext requests.
