Globespan predicts fare rise

CANADIAN specialist Globespan has warned that airfares will rise by at least 7% in the new year because of soaring fuel costs.

Managing director Tom Dalrymple said it will add £25 to £30 to a flight to Canada.

“Last year fuel was $7 a barrel. It is now $25,”he said. “It is inevitable that airfares will increase.”

He urged agents to encourage customers to book now before the price increases in the new year.

The warning follows a prediction from Airtours Holidays managing director Chris Mottershead that package holiday prices will rise by between £10 and £20 in summer 2001 because of the rising fuel costs.
