Stena Line to benefit as fog chaos at airports continues – 22 Dec 2006

Stena Line is expecting to benefit over the Christmas period as fog chaos continues at British airports for the third day running.

The ferry firm expects to carry in excess of 120,000 passengers and 33,000 on its five Irish Sea routes over the Christmas period.

It’s set to be one of its busiest Christmas periods for a number of years following the mass cancellations of domestic flights at UK airports due to heavy fog.

More than 300 flights due to operate today into and out of Heathrow have been cancelled, including all British Airways domestic flights, and 40,000 passengers are expected to be affected.

Meanwhile, Stena still has some last minute availability but is urging travel agents to book customers as soon as possible.

The company, which carries three million people across the Irish Sea every year, has nine ferries on five routes, including Holyhead to Dublin Port and Stranraer to Belfast.
