Freedom Flights switches to no-frills model – 6 Feb 2007

Seats-only specialist Freedom Flights has pledged to adopt the no-frills carrier sales model by this summer.

Managing director Paul Moss said the company was currently investing in technology to offer sector pricing; where agents choose inbound and outbound flights separately rather than less flexible standard return deals. The switch will take place on May 1.

The no-frills model involves selling seats cheaper earlier on, with prices becoming more expensive nearer departure.

He said: “It will achieve a bedrock of load factors. A certain percentage of our aircraft will be sold early and then you are in a comfort zone to be able to put your prices up in the lates market knowing you have sold seats early.”

Moss said his company was as guilty as others of “dragging its heels” about switching its sales model.

“It’ll be more user-friendly. It’s going back to the mentality that you get a cheaper deal earlier on. Due to the glut of capacity customers have become complacent and getting late cheap deals. We need to change that.”

Moss added the company would ultimately still switch to net pricing but not in the short-term future.
