Silverjet is hoping to launch four new routes within the next three years and could have as many as 30 globally, according to the company.
Silverjet founder Lawrence Hunt refused to say which routes were being considered, but said they would be long haul, which he classes as flights of six or more hours, and would either head south or east.
Silverjet president UK Andria Piekarz added: “If you look at the potential market for the flights there are around 30 routes we believe this model could work for.”
In the meantime, she said the present Luton-Newark route should see three flights a day by autumn as the carrier introduces two additional aircraft to meet demand.
She added: “Right now we’re focused on the New York-London route there are more than four million people travelling between the two cities a year and more than 30% of them fly in business and first class, which offers us huge potential.”
First person: the Silverjet experience
The Silverjet experience starts the minute you arrive at Luton airport and find the separate terminal clearly marked. Staff just inside the door check you in and relieve you of your baggage.
In the lounge there are complimentary drinks – hot, cold, alcoholic or soft – as well as cold snacks and newspapers.
The atmosphere is quiet and the lounge waitresses are efficient.
The flight itself is more than comfortable and the view of an aircraft interior filled only with business-class seats is one to behold.
The service is efficient and the food is excellent while independent entertainment consoles offer something for everyone.
My only gripe is the way security checks are performed. Instead of doing checks before passengers enter the lounge in small numbers, they are carried out just before boarding the flight, which leads to a bottleneck, particularly with the current stringent security rules.
