WIGHTLINK Holidays is attempting to build year-round business to the Isle of Wight with the launch of activity holidays and the introduction of more rural properties to its programme.
Included for the first time are ‘tranquillity breaks’, which include aromatherapy and massage in the price; cycling holidays; and an advisory service on bird-watching, wildlife and walking itineraries that are available as add-ons.
Operations manager Martyn Briggs said the additions were intended to boost business during autumn and winter.
He added: “We already know that people with specific interests like cycling and bird-watching visit in the quieter months and it makes sense for us to flag up particular types of accommodation which appeal to these clients.”
Briggs said the extra bed-and-breakfast accommodation and self-catering cottages in rural areas should attract more business outside the summer months. “In the past, people visited the Isle of Wight specifically for its beaches, but in the second half of the 1990s more have looked to take holidays away from the peak season,” he added.
Short breaks have also been added to the brochure. Prices start from £46 for one night or £63 for two nights’ bed and breakfast, including return ferry travel.
