Qatar Airways adds US routes – 27 June 2007

Qatar Airways has launched its first US service with an inaugural flight to Newark Liberty International near New York.

The four-times-weekly service operates from Doha via Geneva using Airbus A330s.

On July 19 the airline will begin a direct daily scheduled service between Doha and Washington DC.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said: “Our determination and endeavours to fly to the United States have at last been fulfilled.

“I am sure we will help boost the tourism industry here by bringing in business and leisure visitors from around the world to experience the delights of this great country.”

So far this year the airline, which operates 58 Airbus aircraft, has added Dar es Salaam, Lagos, Bali, Ho Chi Minh City, Chennai and Geneva to its growing list of destinations with a Stockholm service scheduled to begin on November 30.

Last week the airline announced it had placed an order for 80 Airbus A350 aircraft.
