Exodus integrates costs of local guides into holiday price – 30 Aug 2007

Adventure tour operators are integrating the cost of local guides in order to offer one price to customers.

Exodus managing director Peter Burrell said previously the local payments made to indigenous workers, normally around a tenth of the total cost of a trip, had been shown as a separate payment to assure tourists they were being well paid.

Now, with consumers becoming increasingly annoyed by additional charges and the Office of Fair Trading forcing mainstream operators and airlines to provide one inclusive price, Exodus is including the final price in its new brochures.

Burrell said: “It’s been brought about by the whole low-cost carrier issue as well as other hidden costs customers end up paying.”

The first brochure to feature one price per trip will be for the Family Adventures 2008/09 programme due out in September.

Explore managing director Derek Moore said: “We’re reviewing the policy as we look at next year’s brochures.”
