Alton Towers is the most popular UK attraction for holidaymakers in the southeast, followed by the London Eye and London Zoo, according to an online survey.
The theme park was the top choice, particularly among 16 to 34-year-olds, when customers were asked by research company BDRC where they would like to visit “ignoring financial or practical constraints”.
Of 1,000 respondents living in London and southeast England, 45% planned to visit a museum or gallery in the next three months, 42% a historic property and 40% a garden.
Zoo and safari park visits are planned for 38% and 35% will go to a leisure or theme park.
The free national museums have broad appeal, with about a quarter of respondents rating the Science Museum and National History Museum as places they would “definitely want to visit”.
