Midlands Co-op half-year results buoyed by early bookings

Midlands Co-operative Society claims to have seen a 19% increase in sales in the first six months of the year.

Strong forward bookings for winter 2007 and summer 2008 have generated a 10% increase in sales based on the same period last year, said the company.

Foreign exchange transactions have grown nearly 20% on last year with a further five bureaux opening in the first six months, bringing the total to 36,

Direct sales has benefited from the relaunch of the society’s websites which focus on beach, city, ski and cruise, and the company plans to add further niche sites.

General manager Ken Smith said: “We worked hard to integrate Ilkeston Co-op Travel within our existing business model, following the merger in November 06. The end result is a more streamlined business.

“Our customers are also benefiting from our Personal Travel Solution managers who focus on high-spending customers who prefer face-to-face interaction with a specialist travel advisor for tailor-made holidays.”
