Avro absorbs Monarch baggage charges

Agents booking Monarch scheduled flights through Avro will avoid new baggage charges to be introduced on November 1.

The no-frills airline is to charge £3.99 per checked-in bag each way for passengers who book online or £10 for those who pay at the airport. Baggage booked through its call centre will be charged at £8 per bag per one-way flight.

Avro managing director Michael Vinales said Avro would be absorbing the extra charges.

He said: “Agents booking through Avro will be allowed the 20kg allowance for free as usual. This is another benefit of booking though us, as well as the ability to pay a deposit first and the balance later.”

FlyMonarch.com managing director Liz Savage said the charge would help keep prices low.

She said: “Since the launch of our online check-in service earlier this year, there has been a notable reduction in the amount of hold baggage carried on our flights.

“Passengers are preferring to minimise the time spent in queues at the airport, opting to check in from home and by-passing the fast bag-drop desks at the airports by travelling with hand luggage only.”
