ABTA to lobby over VisitBritain funding

ABTA is still hoping to tackle Minister of State (Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism) Margaret Hodge over the Government’s slashing of VisitBritain’s funding by 18%.

Head of policy and communications David Marshall said he had planned to raise the issue in a meeting with the Minister on Wednesday (October31) before it was cancelled at the last minute by Hodge’s office for personal reasons.

However, with the meeting being rescheduled for later this month (November) he is confident the issue, which concerns ABTA as it sits on the board of the Government-lobbying Tourism Alliance, can still be tackled as well as this year’s increase in Air Passenger Duty.

>Hodge has already defended the cut in VisitBritain funding in Parliament on Monday, saying: “We have asked for a strategic review of how best we use our resources to market the UK.”
