Travel agents report decline in sales

Travel agents are reporting a slowing down of business after the summer’s strong sales.

Kinver Travel Centre owner Sue Foxall said she thought the poor forecast for the UK economy and a predicted drop in house prices is forcing consumers to tighten their belts. “We are coming up to a quiet period but it’s not normally quiet this early; the market seems to have gone slow.”

Bailey’s Travel managing director Chris Bailey said that although the agency’s October sales are set to finish 25% up, there had been a decline of sales in the past 10 days.

He agreed that there was a lack of consumer confidence, although the winter sun market was attracting business.
