Airlines will have to supply data on all passengers flying into and out of the European Union within three years following proposals unveiled by the European Commission on Tuesday.
Carriers already supply advance information on passengers to the US, Canada and Spain, and the demand for information will be extended to flights to other EU destinations next year.
But European commissioner for justice and security Franco Frattini intends to extend the requirement to every destination.
Airlines will have to supply 19 pieces of information, including passengers’ passport numbers, home addresses, credit card details, e-mail addresses and phone numbers.
