MPs attack British Airways surfboard ban

British Airways’ decision to ban surfboards has prompted nearly 60 MPs to sign an early day motion in the House of Commons.

The motion, put forward by shadow home secretary David Davies, says the decision by the airline to ban surfboards, windsurf boards and canoes from flights would “vastly increase the costs and difficulties” of people travelling abroad to surf. The ban would also act as a barrier to those wishing to travel to the UK to surf, it said.

The MPs have called on BA to reconsider its decision. A spokeswoman for the airline said: “Our hold luggage policy stands and there are no plans to review it.”

Meanwhile, just 29 MPs have signed a motion supporting Tourism Alliance’s Take Tourism Seriously campaign, which aims to highlight the industry’s concerns over cuts in VisitBritain’s funding.
