All holiday departures to Kenya for the next two days have been cancelled by members of the Federation of Tour Operators.
The decision has been taken following the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s decision today to advise against all but essential travel to the entire country.
The country has been stricken by rioting which has left more than 300 people dead following last week’s re-election of President Kibaki in what was believed to be a rigged ballot.
The decision by FTO members means anyone due to travel before Sunday will be offered alternative holidays or refunds although customers currently in Kenya will still return home on their scheduled dates.
The situation is being reviewed daily and any changes made to departures after January 5 will be announced as quickly as possible.
