Lion City roars its welcome to agents

THE Singapore Tourism Board will be using World Travel Market to encourage more agents to put together their own familiarisation trips to the Lion City next year.

It is planning to launch a MillenniaMania Singapore Funpak offering agents free and discounted products while they are visiting the destination on independently-organised trips.

The first funpak was launched at last year’s WTM, containing itinerary ideas and offers for agents. A spokeswoman for the STB said the MillenniaMania Funpak contains more offers from more establishments.

The STB will also be promoting forthcoming events and festivals taking place during Singapore’s 15-month celebration of the new millennium. The MillenniaMania programme runs until next August.

It will also be pushing the recently-launched Singapore and More packages which combine three days in Singapore with two days in another destination in Southeast Asia. The packages are available from four UK tour operators.

The STB’s new regional director UK Nicholas Kao, who joined the London team last month, said: “Singapore and More is unique in that it is weighted more towards Singapore than to the twinned destination. Until now most standard packages have tended to do the reverse.”

Other new tour packages to be unveiled include the programmes of one of Singapore’s major tour operators, Chan Brothers, whose new packages include a Singapore and Vietnam combination.

Singapore will once again be exhibiting in the Together in Asia pavilion alongside Thailand and Hong Kong.

n Raffles International is offering a week’s holiday combining two nights in Singapore with four nights in Cambodia, to the winner of the Discovery Competition being held at WTM. The prize includes flights between Singapore and Cambodia, a tour of Phnom Penh and a tour of Angkor Wat.
