SOME 10% of people who travel do not know if they have insurance cover, according to recent figures from American Express.
Another 10% travel without any insurance at all, UK head of insurance Sarah Harper told the conference.
“Many people still regard insurance as part of the package and don’t take any notice of it,” she added.
“Some 5% do not know what type of insurance they have.”
Harper said 70% of travel insurance policies are sold by the industry – 50% by agents and 20% by holiday companies. But she warned that the insurance market is changing in favour of firms such as Boots and Tesco.
