TUI Travel proposes relocation for 300 staff

TUI Travel UK has begun a 90-day consultation period with 300 staff at its office in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey about relocating to its Crawley, West Sussex office.

Tuesday’s announcement would see Thomson Specialist Tour Operations become part of either TUI Travel’s Specialist and Emerging Markets or the Activity Sectors’ businesses.

The reshuffle would see the business relocate from Kingston to Crawley. The move would affect 300 members of staff, but there is no talk of redundancies at present.

Only staff in TUI Travel’s ski businesses will remain in Kingston, while Thomson Al Fresco, also part of the specialist group, will retain its base in Bury, Manchester.

The long-haul specialist’s call centre staff will remain in their offices in Harlow, Essex and will be redeployed to handle the short haul and specialist ski brands.

The consultation will be led by UK Specialist Division managing director Ian Simkins and Mountain Activity Group managing director Matthew Prior.

Although TUI Travel would not comment further, trade union TSSA travel negotiator Rick Justham said: “We are concerned about the further butchery of jobs in the industry. What benefit will this provide our members based in those locations?”
