Tourist board trio repeat Together in Asia strategy

HONG KONG, Singapore and Thailand are taking a joint stand at World Travel Market for a second consecutive year.

Following the success of the Together in Asia stand at WTM ’98, the three tourist boards have taken a bigger, high-tech pavilion for this year’s event.

Singapore Tourism Board UK regional director Nicholas Kao said: “Together in Asia was a bold one-stop-shop initiative last year which proved popular with both exhibitors and travel industry members.

“For WTM ’99 we are making TIA even bigger and better to maximise business opportunities.”

Joining Cathay Pacific and Mandarin Oriental – the stand’s two sponsors last year, Thai Airways International and Star Cruises will also be sponsors for 1999.

The TIA pavilion will be dominated by a backlit panel of the new TIA logo and colour-coded zones have been introduced for each of the three countries.

Marketing manager of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Chris Lee, said: “We are looking at ways of incorporating the concept into our marketing strategies for the coming year with activities like agents’ educationals, direct mailings and trade roadshows.”

A series of receptions at WTM will be held on the two Meridian days and a chill-out zone with refreshments will be available for agents on the last two days.

In addition, an agent competition is being held in the run-up to WTM with a first prize of a trip to Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.

Agents should fill out the form which appears in this issue (see page 52 and 53) and either post it or take it to the Together in Asia stand to enter the prize draw. The name of the first winner will be announced at WTM on Wednesday, the second on Thursday, and the third following WTM.
