BAJAN millennium celebrations will be the main focus of Barbados’ WTM stand this year. The party kicks off at 2am on January 1, 2000, when the island hosts Sunrise Spectacular 2000, a huge event to usher in the New Year. Highlights will include a slap-up breakfast and entertainment from some of the island’s best-known musicians and artists.
Other millennium festivals include the annual Holders Opera Season in March, which brings together world famous classical musicians and singers.
Cropover 2000, Barbados’ traditional harvest festival at the end of July, will be the most ambitious of its kind to date.
Visitors to the Barbados stand will also be able to find out about Beautify Barbados 2000, a new programme of environmental protection that includes cleaning up the island’s waterways and rivers. New trees and shrubs will also be planted to mark the millennium.
