The Association of Independent Tour Operators has appointed Alistair McLean as its new executive director.
The former Government of St Helena marketing and tourism development manager will take on the role at the association’s on April 22 when he replaces Angela Simpson following a two-week handover period.
AITO chairman Derek Moore said: “Alistair has run his own specialist tour operating company, has worked as general manager of a specialist tour operator, and understands the workings of the travel industry from a wide range of perspectives, having also been involved with tourist boards.
“He impressed AITO’s recruitment committee with his understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing AITO, and we are delighted to welcome him on board in this newly-upgraded director-level role.”
McLean said: “Consumers are now recognising that quality is important where holidays are concerned and are seeking exactly what AITO and its members offer.
“AITO is in the right place at the right time, and we have the perfect opportunity in 2008 and beyond to ensure that AITO members are recognised as the standard bearers for the quality end of the travel industry.”
