SINGAPORE AIRLINES TO JOIN STAR ALLIANCE


Singapore Airlines is to join the Star Alliance, becoming a full member in April next year. Other members are Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Ansett, Lufthansa, SAS, Thai International, United Airlines, Varig and All Nippon Airways. Singapore already has a codeshare agreement with the alliance members and, since October 31 it has been offering Round the World and StarLite fares.


KNTO HELPLINE ADDS ENGLISH OPTION


The Korea National Tourism Organisation and 22 Korean regional councils have set up a telephone helpline for non-Korean speaking visitors to obtain any tourist information they require in English during their trip. The number to call in Korea is 1330. In addition, Korea has launched a free tour guide/interpreter service for independent travellers who only have to pay for the guide’s travel expenses. For assistance, they should call (02)771 8114.


LAZARO MAKES STAND AT PHILIPPINES DISPLAY


New Philippines’ tourism attache in London, Bernadette Lazaro, is hosting the country’s stand at WTM this year. She replaces Eduardo Jarque, who has returned to the Philippines after 12 years in the job. Lazaro was previously based in Paris where she spent seven years as the Philippines’ conventions and incentives regional co-ordinator.
