Shearings Holidays is to switch off viewdata for travel agent bookings at the end of next month.
The tour operator will take bookings instead through its dedicated trade website as well as over the phone through its call centre.
The site has been live since January, and encouraged a switchover with an online incentive, which paid out £3,000 worth of gift vouchers. Already the “majority” of bookings are online, according to the company.
Head of product UK and Europe Caroline Brown said up-to-date prices and offers could be loaded on to the website quickly and did not anticipate a problem with the change.
She said: “Viewdata bookings has dropped off dramatically. We would not switch it off if we were not convinced we could do it.
“We can put offers on the site every day as well as other individual products. We will encourage agents to use the site and ring our call centre for more complicated bookings.”
Meanwhile, the company has restructured its commercial team under new commercial director Alan MacLean. The sales and marketing and product teams have been merged into one department, with the promotion of four senior staff to head up key areas, to work more effectively together.
Fiona Greenhalgh, former senior sales and marketing manager, has been promoted to head of sales and marketing, and is responsible for sales and marketing across the business, including sales support and new business development.
Former product manager UK and Ireland Caroline Brown has been promoted to head of product, heading up yield and creation and six regional product managers.
Jesper Hochheim has become head of purchasing and Chris Howarth is e-commerce manager to develop the Internet and e-commerce sales.
