Exhibitors look northwards to market distinctive territories

MORE THAN 40 exhibitors will be showcasing their product in the Canada Pavilion with strong support from the various Canadian provinces’ tourist offices, major hotel chains and airlines.

Quebec and Ontario will be launching their agents’ training video; Canadian Pacific Hotels will be focusing on its new acquisition – Fairmont Hotels and Resorts; and the country’s three far northern territories will come together under the Canada’s North banner.

The northern partnership was developed a year ago to pool marketing resources to promote sustainable adventure and aboriginal tourism in European markets.

Tourism Yukon’s UK manager Jill White has also been appointed World Travel Market representative for Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

She said: “All three territories offer different and complementary products in summer and winter. The Yukon has an extensive road network and scenic highways, making it ideal for flydrive alternatives.

“The Northwest Territory is known for its superb outdoor adventure, and Nunavut is both a winter and summer adventure destination with a strong cultural tourism component.”

Destination Quebec and Ontario Tourism will be launching their joint training video which agency staff helped produce while on a recent fam trip.

Ontario Tourism UK representative Sharon Bernstein said: “We wanted to produce a video that agents could relate to. It features the personal viewpoints of agents, for agents.”

The video targets three markets – young adventurers, older active couples, and families.

Tourism representatives from the western Canada provinces of British Columbia and Alberta will be at WTM prior to holding their own trade show at the end of this month. Canada’s West Marketplace will be held in Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, from November 29-December 3.

British Columbia’s Whistler Resort Association will also be at WTM to promote its new title, Tourism Whistler, along with a new logo and Web site.

On the hotel front, WTM participants include Days Inn Canada, Delta Hotels, Hilton Canada and Whistler’s Westin Resort and Spa, as well as Canadian Pacific Hotels.

Canadian Pacific is focusing attention on the recent reopening of its luxury Le Manoir Richelieu property in Quebec and its new Vancouver Airport hotel which opens this month.

The property will be called the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel, reflecting Canadian Pacific’s acquisition of North American chains Fairmont Hotels and Princess Hotels. Canadian Pacific and Fairmont have created a luxury hotel management company, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. The new management team will be at WTM.

Charter airline Canada 3000 will have details of its summer 2000 schedule and the delivery of a fourth wide-bodied aircraft to the fleet in May.
