Wakefield-based Hellenic Voyages has become the third UK travel firm to fold within a week.
However, customers who have booked flights or package holidays will not lose their money because Hellenic traded under the Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL) scheme that guarantees consumers’ cash.
Hellenic also traded as Sunescapes and Quickescapes and offered flights, accommodation and packages to Greece and Cyprus. It ceased trading yesterday after failing to renew its ATOL at the end of March.
The Civil Aviation Authority said customers with bookings should not try to travel as all flights have been cancelled. Instead, they should claim refunds from the CAA through the website atol.org.uk.
Those currently on holiday can complete their trip and fly home as planned, with the CAA making the necessary arrangements with carriers.
The CAA was unable to say how many people were affected, but a spokesman said: “Hellenic was quite a small company.”
Hellenic’s failure follows the collapse and subsequent buy-out of tour operator Barwell Travel of Chessington and failure of Essex-based agency Mayflower Travel last week.
