AITO 2008: Agents should encourage a social buzz about their businesses

Agents can improve their businesses by creating a social buzz about them.

Kirker Holidays director of sales and marketing Ted Wake said organising local events in the community like themed drinks evenings and inviting the right clients to them can effectively generate bookings.

It can also create the social one-upmanship needed to ensure friends in the community are constantly trying to out do one another with the holidays they are taking.

Wake said: “You have to make your companies a talking point around dinner party tables, if you can get that from clients it is a very powerful tool.”

He added some operators like Kirker Holidays will be more inclined to support such events as opposed to simply handing out money for advertising campaigns.

Wake said: “We’re beginning to get a bit bored when an agent asks if we’ve got £250 for an advert.

“If you tell me you’ve got 15 of your best clients there for canapes and champagne we’ll be there in a shot; we’ll bring the whole office and have a party.”
