THE travel industry has been having a laugh at the expense of JMC ever since Thomas Cook unveiled its new brand on September 1.
Everyone has been calling it ‘just minor changes’ or ‘just marketing chaff’, or saying it sounds like a hi-fi system or road-haulage company. But Backchat can reveal that it could have been far worse – other names under consideration were Colours or Zest – ideal for super-clean family fun. But the funniest name on the shortlist was surelyÉ Buttons.
We kid you not, Buttons was a serious contender for the name of one of the country’s biggest tour operators. Amazingly, marketing agencies get paid a shed load of money to come up with suggestions like that. There is one advantage – it makes JMC seem quite sensible.
