TravelRepublic reports May sales up by 38%

TravelRepublic.co.uk has reported more than a third of an increase in sales in May with the market remaining buoyant.

The online travel agency made 38% more sales than in May 2007 and the trend is strengthening – between June 1 and June 18 sales have been 44% ahead of where they were the previous year.

Managing director Paul Furner said the sales have been driven by companies outside of the Euro-zone, sales to Tunisia grew by 157% in May while both Turkey and Egypt were up 139% in the same period. There was also an 81% increase in sales for the US.

He added: “A recent report by the Confederation of British Industry confirmed that the British public are still keen to book holidays despite the credit crunch and ongoing financial worries.

“Travel was the only consumer services sector to report growth in the first three months of 2008 which illustrates just how important our annual break is – particularly in such a tough economic climate.”
