Job cuts to be announced

Going Places is to annouce job losses at its head office in Woking next week as part of a major overhaul at the multiple.

It is the first of a three-phase restructure which will see around 25% of its 450 staff made redundant (Travel Weekly October 11).

New managing director Terry Fisher, who outlined his vision for Going Places at its conference last week, said the aim of the over-haul is to create a more streamlined, dynamic operation.

However, he declined to reveal how many jobs will go in the first wave of cuts.

“This is about positions, not personalities,” Fisher insisted. “Of course there has been uncertainty but the first phase has taken only three weeks to complete. We want staff to know where they stand as soon as possible.”

He added that the number of counter staff will be increased.

Sources say Fisher’s arrival has not been well received by a number of senior staff at its Woking headquarters.

“Some staff are resisting the changes he is trying to make,” said a source.

Fisher will also scrap its pay and reward scheme and introduce a new system based on directional selling.
