Travelworld acquires five branches of failed agency

TRAVELWORLDhas acquired five branches of collapsed Leigh-based Monks World Travel. The shops are in Nantwich in Cheshire, Atherton in Manchester, Astley Bridge in Bolton, Connahs Quay in Wales and Culcheth in Warrington.

Staff have joined Travelworld. The retailer is talking to operators about refunds and reassigning bookings. A sixth branch, in Frodsham, has been acquired by Going Places. The acquisitions saved 22 jobs, leaving 33 in the balance at six unsold branches. The 12-branch Monks World Travel ceased trading last Thursday due to insolvency. Paul Stanley of Manchester administrators Begbies Traynor said the company had lost £90,000 this year. It became insolvent when a request for a £200,000 loan was turned down. Buyers are being sought for the six remaining branches. Enquiries should be faxed to 0161 832 7436. Monks World Travel is not connected to a Christchurch-based firm with the same name.
