British Columbia wildfires force Rocky Mountaineer itinerary change

Canadian tourist train Rocky Mountaineer has been forced to alter an itinerary in the face of devastating wildfires in British Columbia.

The blazes have shut the railway near Quesnel in the Cariboo area, affecting trains on the company’s Rainforest to Gold Rush route that travels between Vancouver and Jasper via Quesnel and Whistler.

In an alert to trade partners, the rail company said: “As you may know, British Columbia is currently under a state of emergency due to escalating wildfires.

“We are monitoring the situation closely as the safety of our guests and team is our top priority.”

Alternative plans have been put in place for passengers currently travelling on the Vancouver to Jasper route, “and will continue to do so for upcoming departures should the railway remain closed,” the company said.

“Currently, our First Passage to the West and Journey Through the Clouds schedules are not affected by the wildfires.”

The firm is posting regular updates online at www.rockymountaineer.com/alert “as this is an ongoing situation”.

The Canadian Fred Cross has established a British Columbia Fires Appeal and is seeking donations for its work in supporting those impacted by the fires.
