Antigua shooting: husband flown back to UK

The honeymooner left in a coma after a robbery at his Antiguan hotel is being flown back to the UK.

Ben Mullany, from the Swansea Valley in Wales, was last night taken from the intensive care unit in St John’s to the airport where an air ambulance was waiting to bring him home where it is hoped he will get better medical attention.

The 31-year-old is on life support with a fractured skull and broken leg.

The body of his wife, Catherine, remains in Antigua for the time being.

The couple married just two weeks ago and were on the last night of their honeymoon on Sunday night in Cocos Hotel when they were attacked in their cottage.

A spokeswoman for the island’s tourist board said an announcement is expected today as to when Catherine’s body will be released.
