Liverpool John Lennon Airport expects to handle 5% more passengers during the school summer holidays this year.
Around 750,000 are due to use the airport over the next six weeks, including more than 25,000 departing this week alone as schools in England break up for the summer.
The airport expects this is likely to be the busiest summer in five years with direct flights operating to more than 60 destinations and the majority of passengers heading to sunshine resorts in the Mediterranean.
Barcelona, Palma, Malaga and Alicante are expected to be among the most popular destinations together with Rome and Faro.
Travellers are being advised to allow plenty of time to pass through the airport during peak periods and to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled departure time.
A spokesman said: “Whilst queue times at the airport are still some of the shortest around, we do advise that passengers should allow plenty of time to pass through the airport at this particularly busy time as well as leaving plenty of time for their journey to the airport too.”
