Ouch! The English Tourism Councilis not actually supposed to do any marketing (ETCcriticised over lack of marketing experts, Travel Weekly October 11).
David Michels, whose comments you paraphrased rather misleadingly, was in fact making the point that the ETCactually no longer does any marketing. That marketing role was taken away during the recent Government review of the old English Tourist Board.
The newly formed English Tourism Council now concentrates on research and intelligence, policy and strategy, quality standards and also technology.
Mr Michels was just making the point that the ETC was no longer marketing and so no longer had the staff todo it.
